Jewish Community Prepares to Mourn on Anniversary of Oct 7
Synagogues plan programs; hate groups plan celebration of Oct 7 attacks on Amherst Common
As the Jewish community across the globe, from Israel to Amherst and Northampton, prepares to mourn the first anniversary of the largest and most horrific murders of Jews since the Holocaust, local synagogues are offering programming while local hate groups plan to celebrate the Oct 7 attacks.
Congregation CBI Northampton and the Jewish Community of Amherst are offering commemorative services of mourning. For details, please contact the respective synagogue whose programming you would like to attend.
Separately, families are cautioned that multiple hate groups are planning a celebration of the Oct 7, 2023 attacks to take place on the Amherst Common at 7:00 pm on the one-year anniversary — tomorrow, Oct 7, 2024. Their planned alternative location in case of rain is the Mill Valley Recreational area.
Jewish Amherst is building Jewish community throughout the Pioneer Valley to allow for celebration of Jewish life, traditions, teachings, and learnings, and to create a space and events for open discussion about the many joys and awe we share, as well as the pain we experience together.
